OutsiderXchanges is a collaborative visual arts project that will bring together learning disabled and non-learning disabled artists to develop shared ideas and new contemporary work.
Running over a year, artists from Manchester and Gateshead/Newcastle will work together to make new work. Venture Arts is working in partnership with Baltic Mill, Gateshead, Castlefield Galleries, Manchester and the Contemporary Visual Arts Network (CVAN) to build on experience and audiences.
Acclaimed artist Tanya Raabe-Webber will work with all the artists involved focusing on pairing the artists, building on their ideas, developing their knowledge of learning disability arts aesthetic and cultural identity and working in a new space.
On Thursday 08 October the team from Venture Arts and Baltic Mill came together for the first time – alongside the artist Tanya Raabe-Webber to hold our first planning meeting. We found out who was going to do what, when things were planned to happen, where activity was going to happen, how we were going to recruit artists and also how we were going to talk about / advocate about the project.
We’ll have lots of information, updates, news, events and fantastic artwork to show you over the next year so please come back to find out more.
