Barry sees himself as a writer and an actor, although he has an eye for producing bold striking visual art as part of this. It is important for him to enact the work through readings and broadcasting.
Barry works consistently with text. The text is artistically important in that it highlights a vision of life in large letters. He draws well, but this project we feel that he has much to offer collaborating artists through the way the text comes from his ideas onto paper, wood, ceramics and metal. This style is visually absorbing. Each new piece he makes gives glimmers of his “writtings” making the viewer want to piece them together and read more. He often refers to his past in his “writtings” and in lists things that he has seen on journeys, like “traffic lighters”, and “sttreet lampers” and also things he would like to collect like “dinky toy roaders” and “sweeters”. His style of writing is unique and gives you a real insight into Barry’s journeys through life and fascination with particular objects and people.
